BEIGE BOX 2000
"Computers and computing in the 1990's and 2000's"
WELCOME
Welcome to my little corner of the World Wide Web, dedicated to computers and computing during the late 90's and early 2000's! My name is Derek and I personally love this particular era of computer history. The internet was young, computers were fast becoming ubiquitous, and computing was an experience, an adventure.
This site is a work in progress, ("Under Construction" GIF's anyone?), a place for me to gather my computer thoughts and ideas. Nothing is set in stone yet. The site name is still up for debate. The direction I want this site to take is as yet undetermined. Even the bulk of the content that will be here is currently a mystery. However, it is a start. Here on August 29, 2023...the site began!
BACK TO THE OLD WEB
I don't feel that the current trend towards Y2K and the "old internet" is necessarily an affirmation of the design (or lack thereof) that was present in that time period. I believe it to be more than just a heavy dose of nostalgia for those that were on the World Wide Web at that time. It is more of a philosophy, a yearning for what was common then...personal websites devoted to personal passions simply for the sake of it.
It was a design style, but that was more to do with the tech of the day. It was also, and perhaps much more, a philosophy. You made your own page. You had your own little piece of real estate on the World Wide Web. You shared your interests and passions. You could be as anonymous or transparent as you wanted.
TONGUE-IN-CHEEK
- I dream in beige!
- You can have your computer in any color you like as long as it's beige!
